Q: Do I bring my instrument the first day of school?
A: Yes! Though we may not play the first day of school, we
will assign lockers to people with instruments on a first
come first serve basis. Locks are provided.
Q: When will we start playing?
A: We start playing the second day of school.
Q: What if I don’t own my own instrument?
A: NISD will provide students with school owned violas,
cellos, and basses for a $30/year maintenance fee.
Q: Does the district provide violins?
A: No, NISD does not provide violins on the high school
level. If you play violin, you must rent or purchase your own
violin to be in orchestra at Clark.
Q: Do I get a uniform?
A: Students will be issued formal tuxedos/dresses for a
uniform cleaning fee of $10.
Q: How do I know which class I will be in?
A: You are placed in a class based on teacher
recommendation/audition. Your class will be reflected on
your school schedule.
Q: Which class period is my orchestra?
A: Classes are as follows:
1st Period: Varsity Orchestra
2nd Period: Non-Varsity Orchestra
Q: What if I am placed in the wrong class period?
A: Don’t worry, we will get your schedule changed.
Q: What if I can’t fit the correct orchestra class in my
schedule?
A: This happens occasionally because of conflicts with
athletics or other one period classes. If you enroll in one of
the two orchestra periods and come to rehearsals outside
of class you can still perform with the correct orchestra.
Q: Do we take a trip every year?
A: We take a trip out of state every other year.
Q: How am I graded in orchestra?
A: Grades are participation based. Everyone gets a grade of
100 if they participate, and points off if they do not
participate.
Q: Do I have chair tests?
A: Yes, we have a chair test before each concert.
Q: Do I have to play in front of everyone?
A: No. Chair tests are recorded, and only the orchestra
director hears them.
Q: Do I have to try out for Region Orchestra and play a solo or ensemble?
A: No. These are optional events, and are not graded.
